The design is based on an early 18th c. English sampler. As part of their education and to demonstrate their skills in needlework young girls embroidered in silk and wool: animals, figures, landscapes and alphabets. The origin of the phrase 'Home is where the Heart is' has been attributed to the Roman military commander, philosopher and naturalist Pliny the Elder (23-79AD); it sums up the affection we feel for our home and the people we love.
