This delicate strawberry design is based on a drawing by theologian and physician Dr William Turner (1508-68). Known as the 'Father of English Botany' he published 'A New Herball', the first major book about plants to be written in English. For part of his life Turner lived at the Old Deanery in Wells where there is a garden containing plants and trees which are described in his writings. The quote 'Sweet as Love' is from Endymion Book IV by the English romantic poet John Keats (1795-1821).
