The Strawberry Thief is one of William Morris’s best known designs. This printed cotton furnishing textile was inspired by the thrushes that came to feast on the strawberries in the kitchen garden of his countryside home at Kelmscott Manor. First printed in 1883 it was intended for curtains or loose furniture covers. It has since has become one of his most commercially successful patterns.
