New! Blue Tits with their colourful mix of blue, yellow and white plumage are widespread across the UK. Although common in woodlands and hedgerows they are often found in gardens topping up their insect diet with seeds and nuts from bird tables and feeders. During winter when they feed in groups they provide acrobatic entertainment flitting back and forth from branch to feeder. They nest in small holes in tree trunks but will happily take up residence in a nest box. The female builds a nest of moss and leaves and usually lays 8-12 eggs, which means many caterpillars are needed to feed the chicks.
