New! Bumble Bees are large furry insects spotted buzzing around flowering plants during the summer months. Most species of bumble bee found in the UK build nests. After a winter in hibernation the busy queen collects pollen, builds and attends her nest where she lays her eggs. As worker bees emerge they take over from the queen’s duties and she retires to a life of egg laying. In autumn the colony gradually dies out to be replaced in spring by new queens and worker bees. Bumble bees are important to ecosystems as pollinators of plants and crops nessessary to the survival of humans and many animals.
